Recurrent aphthous stomatitis is characterized by recurring, painful, solitary or multiple ulcers, typically covered by a white-to-yellow pseudomembrane and surrounded by an erythematous halo ( Figure 5 ) . Recurrent aphthous stomatitis usually involves nonkeratinizing mucosa (., labial mucosa, buccal mucosa, ventral tongue). There are three clinical forms: minor, major, and herpetiform. The minor form is the most common and appears as rounded, well-demarcated, single or multiple ulcers less than 1 cm in diameter that usually heal in 10 to 14 days without scarring.

My boyfriend has cracks in the corner of his mouth on both sides. It isn't cold sores because it never blisters. It burns like a cold sore and hurts when he opens his mouth wide. It normally starts off when he is dehydrated. I put Savlon on regularly as well as moisturiser but it never seems to go away completely.

It will go away for a week or so, and then come back. It gets red and sore, and makes it difficult for him to have a shave. But even when he uses an ordinary razor and shaving cream, it's still difficult to shave because of the sores.

I don't know what causes this but obviously I don't like him being in discomfort. Thanks in advance for any help.

By the way, thanks for all your responses in my previous "yellow tongue" topic. It appears to have gone away for now!

Will Geographic Tongue go away? This is something that worries most sufferers of this syndrome. Contrary to the startling appearance that it causes, Geographic Tongue is not a serious disease. It does not cause any health complications. It is not related to any cancerous or infectious condition either. However, the disease can be painful and cause discomfort and tenderness in tongue. This can affect daily activities like eating. Treatment is very important in such cases. With effective treatment and lifestyle modifications, the condition usually goes away in a few days.

Modern dermatology can provide a variety of ways to treat lip wrinkles and marionette lines associated with perleche, and improve skin quality in general. This ranges from proper skin care to laser resurfacing. Facial fillers and fat may be used to replace the loss of connective tissue in the lips and provide support due to aging. Laser, fillers and other techniques can be used to remove both superficial and deep wrinkles and result in a healthier, rejuvenated appearance. This subject will be covered more fully in an upcoming issue of Dear Doctor magazine.
